The only cookies here are Google Analytics.

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store on your device, so that the site can recognise the same browser on a later request. Related technologies, such as local storage, session storage, tracking pixels, and browser fingerprinting, do a similar job by different means. They are used for things like keeping you logged in, remembering preferences, counting visitors, and following people between websites to target advertising.

One thing: Google Analytics. It sets first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID, which let it tell one visit from the next, and it sends page views and basic device and browser details to Google. Its advertising features (ad storage, ad user data and ad personalisation) are switched off before it starts. Apart from that, this site does not:

• set any other cookie;
• load any other third-party script;
• write to your browser's localStorage or sessionStorage;
• use advertising, remarketing or heat-mapping tools;
• embed content from another domain. The fonts are not fetched from a font provider, and the site does not load a video player, map, chat widget or social button;
• follow you around other websites, or receive anything about your activity elsewhere.

The typefaces are downloaded from this site's own domain, not from a font service, so your visit is not disclosed to a third party in order to render the page. The images are our own files.

We chose to tell you about Google Analytics here rather than put a banner in front of every page. It loads for every visitor, and you stay in control of it: section 6 explains how to block it.

Beyond Google Analytics, any web server necessarily receives the technical details of each request: your IP address, the page requested, your browser and device type, and the time. Our hosting provider logs them in order to serve the site and protect it from abuse. Those logs are not cookies, they are not tied to a stored identifier in your browser, and we do not use them to build a profile of you. See the Privacy Policy.

The “Request access” and “Contact” links on this site open vortex.llc, and the footer links to other Vortex properties. Those are separate websites. They use cookies and publish their own cookie policies, and once you follow a link you are covered by the policy of the site you land on, not by this one.

Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies through its settings, including the Google Analytics cookies on this site, and this site works normally without them. Google also offers an opt-out browser add-on that stops Google Analytics on every site. For the rest of the web, blocking cookies may stop some sites working normally. If we ever add anything else to this website that sets a cookie or loads a third-party script, this page is updated before that change ships, and we revise the “last updated” date. If what is added requires consent, we will ask for it properly rather than assume it.
